Who is Dr. David Sutton?

My first memories are of my parents giving me He-Man and Battle Cat as a gift.  The hours I had already spent watching and becoming a dedicated worshiper of the world of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe meant the next period of my life would include countless adventures with these plastic toys.  Fast forward more than thirty years into the future, and I still have Battle Cat, and my adventures continue.  From conventions to games to papers to my dissertation, popular culture has dominated my life.  I am hooked.

While I started my doctoral program expecting to write about children's literature, a course in New Media and Electronic Literature with Dr. Dene Grigar remediated my passions for popular culture and nerdom into my research agenda.  I have since been on a mission to share my passions with others and foster the passion of popular culture, participatory cultures, and fandoms into new scholarship for my students.  I have morphed from Fan to ACA-FAN, and I am dedicated to a career helping others join this community.

Professionally, my work centers on the development of systems and strategies to empower professors to develop and execute high quality, rigorous lessons built on deep, meaningful relationships with their students.  Furthermore, I stress the pursuit of mastery over a grade in the learning environment.  Using QM rubrics, data and coaching, professors can ensure students who failed to master a concept are met with strategies to help them revisit the concepts and develop the necessary competencies to find mastery of the materials.

Personally, I live in Fort Worth with my wife, Kristin, sons, Lance and Thomas, and my daughters, Jaden, Mackenzie, Hailey, Lena, Natasha, and Addy. When we are not involved in teaching and learning, we enjoy gaming and spending time attending Comic Conventions, Movies, fishing, and camping.
